11 Foods That You Didn't Know That Make You Tired

                                                                   1. Hummus

Although delicious and healthy, hummus contains tryptophan (an amino-acid found in some foods), that can make you sleepy, but on the bright side also allow you to get a good night's rest. Just a couple of tablespoons is enough to give you a full night's sleep, so it's a perfect before-bedtime snack.

                                                                   2. Salmon

Salmon is packed with vitamin B6, which is in melatonin - also known as the sleep-inducing hormone. So if you need help sleeping better and want to do it in a delicious and nutrious way, try salmon.

                                                                   3. Walnuts

Walnuts also contain tryptophan, and also contain melatonin. These are the perfect snack to munch on before you hit the sack.

                                                                   4. Lettuce

Shocker, right? A salad with dinner can actually speed up your bedtime process. Lettuce has sedative properties in it that can trick your brain into feeling sleepy.

                                                           5. Lobster and Shrimp

I put these two together because they are obviously both part of the sea food family, and they are both a great source of tryptophan.

                                                                    6. Bananas

Bananas are a great before bed choice. They are loaded with potassium and magnesium, which both help with muscle and nerve tension, so they can help put you more at ease.

                                                                   7. Cherries

Cherries are a natural source of melatonin. If eaten regularly, they can help restore your natural sleep cycle. Cherries make for a tasty way to fall asleep.

                                                                    8. Honey

A natural sleep aid, one tablespoon is more than enough to help you fall asleep and to help you skip the sleeping pills.

                                                             9. Dark Chocolate

Chocolate lovers rejoice! Dark chocolate promotes good sleep and is also great for relaxation, putting you in a good mood, and of course, taste delicious.

                                                              10. White Bread

An American classic, it might be delicious, but it also drains your energy. It is full of refined grains that can leave you feeling spent after consuming it. On the contrary, for an energy boost try going with wheat bread instead.

                                                                   11. Turkey

Of course we couldn't leave this off of our list. Everyone finds themselves napping after Thanksgiving, and it's usually due to this tryptophan packed bird.

                                 Spring 2015s Biggest Fashion Trends

With Fashion Week now over, here are the 8 biggest fashion trends for Spring 2015.

                                                                                    1. Shirtdresses

This classic staple takes a new twist with drop-waists, high slits and even double slits.

                                                                                         2. Yellow

This Spring yellow takes the stage with various shades ranging from marigold to canary. With so many selections, there is a shade for everyone, even for those whole aren't usually yellow fans. The trick is simply figuring out which shade looks best on your skin tone.

                                                                                3. Black and White

Although this trend never really goes out of style, what makes it interesting for the Spring are all of the new textures, patterns and silhouettes.

                                                                                 4. Blue and White
If black and white is too dark for you for the Spring, blue and white might be a better option.

                                                                       5. Kimono-Style Trench Coats

The classic trench coat re-designed: now slouchy, more comfortable and comfortable. Definitely a Spring staple.

                                                                             6. Head-to-Toe White

I love this chic trend. It's no longer about when you can wear white, but now how you can wear it. Mix up the textures, layer up and try various shades together.

                                                                          7. The One-Shoulder Look

Also a fan of this trend, it is sexy without revealing too much. Show off your shoulders with fun one-shoulder tops and dresses.

8. Polo Style Shirts

The sporty theme continues this season. Get ready to pop your collar and channel your inner prep.

14 Junk Foods That Are Healthier Than You Think

                                                                                      1. Chips

Choosing potato chips that are plain and do not have monosodium glutamate (MSG) are the best option when looking for the healthiest potato chip to buy. Other options to make this junk food healthier include baked chips, kettle chips and those not made from potatos, such as beans or vegetables.

2. Dark Chocolate

Almonds covered in chocolate are the best options to make this junk food healthier because of the added antioxidants and unsaturated fat. Try to choose brands with no added sugars to reduce unhealthy ingredients even more.

3.Snack Cakes

Look for 100-calorie packs with at least 7 grams of fiber. Cereal bars are also a goox option, adding nutrition from fruit and oats.

4. Cookies

Choose graham crackers, oatmeal cookies with fruit or raisins, or ginger cookies. You want to pack as many healthy foods into a cookie as possible, while letting it still be a cookie.

5. Popsicles

You can get fruit content from different popsicles. In most cases, you can find varieties that have no added sugars as well.

6. Ice Cream

Frozen treats are definitely a junk food that has plenty of healthy options. You can choose frozen yogurt as opposed to ice cream. Top with fresh fruit and nuts like the picture above. If you want real ice cream, choose plain vanilla.

7. Gummy Fruit Snacks

There are organic brands available in most stores that have less sugar and more natural fruit juices, decreasing the calorie and fat intake for this junk food.

8. Pizza

To turn this junk food healthy, choose thin crust, leave off the extra cheese, and top the pizza with vegetables, such as peppers, onions, mushrooms, and olives.

9. French Fries

Cutting your own potatoes and baking them in the oven allows you to turn this into a healthier food.

10. Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet potatoes are high in fiber and Vitamin A and have been shown to help reduce the risk of cancer.

11. Chocolate Cake

To make this junk food healthier, substitute applesauce for the oil, and use whole-wheat flour instead of regular all purpose flour. Swapping out these few ingredients can turn this from junk food to healthy indulgence.

12. Nachos

Instead of topping the tortilla chips with cheese and sour cream, opt for peppers, beans, a little cheese, and Greek yogurt.

13. Cheeseburgers

Swap the beef for chicken or turkey, use low-fat cheese and forget the bun to change this from a junk food to a healthy food. If you must have a bun, choose a whole-grain or whole-wheat alternative. Top it with lettuce, tomato and onion, but leave off the mayo.

14. Beef Jerky

Even though it can be loaded with preservatives, beef jerky is high in protein and makes a great in-between-meals snack.

                                                                                    Journaling

Journaling is something that is obviously not new, but is something new to me and something I have just recently started practicing. Journaling to me is like maintaining a dialouge with myself. Friendship with oneself is very important, and healthy. Although I don't write in it everyday, it has helped me a lot.  Your journal can literally be whatever you want it to be; a notebook, a hard cover or a leather-bound book. Since it is your journal, you can write about whatever you want. Here are 30 journaling prompts for self-reflection and self-discovery:

  1. My favorite way to spend the day is…
  2. If I could talk to my teenage self, the one thing I would say is…
  3. The two moments I’ll never forget in my life are… Describe them in great detail, and what makes them so unforgettable.
  4. Make a list of 30 things that make you smile.
  5. Write about a moment experienced through your body. Making love, making breakfast, going to a party, having a fight, an experience you’ve had or you imagine for your character. Leave out thought and emotion, and let all information be conveyed through the body and senses.
  6. The words I’d like to live by are…
  7. I couldn’t imagine living without…
  8. When I’m in pain — physical or emotional — the kindest thing I can do for myself is…
  9. Make a list of the people in your life who genuinely support you, and who you can genuinely trust. (Then make time to hang out with them.)
  10. What does unconditional love look like for you?
  11. What would you do if you loved yourself unconditionally? How can you act on these things whether you do or don’t?
  12. I really wish others knew this about me…
  13. Name what is enough for you.
  14. If my body could talk, it would say…
  15. Name a compassionate way you’ve supported a friend recently. Then write down how you can do the same for yourself.
  16. What do you love about life?
  17. What always brings tears to your eyes?
  18. Write about a time when work felt real to you, necessary and satisfying. Paid or unpaid, professional or domestic, physical or mental.
  19. Write about your first love — whether a person, place or thing.
  20. Using 10 words, describe yourself.
  21. What’s surprised you the most about your life or life in general?
  22. What can you learn from your biggest mistakes?
  23. I feel most energized when…
  24. Write a list of questions to which you urgently need answers.
  25. Make a list of everything that inspires you — from books to websites to quotes to people to paintings to stores to the stars.
  26. What’s one topic you need to learn more about to help you live a more fulfilling life? (Then learn about it.)
  27. I feel happiest in my skin when…
  28. Make a list of everything you’d like to say no to.
  29. Make a list of everything you’d like to say yes to.
  30. Write the words you need to hear.

Journaling helps us figure out who we are, what we need and what we want. It can help us make better decisions, and focus on the very things that support us in taking compassionate care of ourselves and others.
